Wolfe Braude and Pearl Thandrayan

 Research Associate

Wolfe and Pearl are both Senior Research Partners at Emet Consulting, a research consultancy based in Pretoria that specialises in industrial, trade, labour market, international relations and education policy research and project management. In addition, the company undertakes training, facilitation and materials development.

Wolfe previously held the position of Senior Researcher – Labour Standards and Collective Bargaining, at the National Labour and Economic Development Institute (Naledi) from 2003 to early 2005. Prior to his appointment at Naledi, Wolfe was the Programme Manager for the Department of Trade and Industry’s Policy Support Programme (DTI PSP) from 2000 to 2002. His research interests include industrial policy, trade policy, labour standards, poverty alleviation, civil society development, technology and globalisation.

Pearl holds an MsC in Development Studies from the University of Bath (1998) and was an Academic Development Coordinator for Political Science at the University of Durban-Westville from 1996 to 1997. She previously held the position of Director – Internal Development Co-ordination, at the Department of Trade and Industry, from 2001 to 2002. As a director, she was responsible for the design and implementation of a Sector Wide Employment and Equity Programme which oversaw the integration of all donor funded programmes at the department. Prior to this, Pearl was research manager for the Deputy-Director General of Enterprise and Industry at DTI, 2000 to 2001. Her initial appointment to the DTI was as Deputy-Director of Policy Coordination at DTI, 1999 to 2000.
