Background:
Ross Herbert is a research fellow on the Governance and African Peer Review Mechanism Programme at SAIIA. He joined the institute in May 2001 after seven years with Independent Newspapers, where he served two years as business feature writer and five years as Africa Correspondent. He has worked in more than 40 African countries and written extensively on the New Partnership for Africa's Development, the Great Lakes, aid effectiveness, corruption, conditionality and conflict. Mr Herbert headed SAIIA's Nepad and Governance Programme from 2002-2006 and the Governance and African Peer Review Programme from 2002-2008. He is currently representing SAIIA on an international research consortium led by the Overseas Development Institute doing work on the African Power and Politics programme. He holds a Master's degree in Journalism from Columbia University in New York and a Bachelor's in Business from the University of Illinois.
