Richard Gibb

Research Associate

Richard holds a BSc. in Geography and a D.Phil from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. He is Dean of Science at the University of Plymouth, UK.

Richard has worked extensively on the issue of regional integration throughout southern Africa, with a particular focus on SACU. His work embraces both an empirical policy relevant perspective and a theoretical exploration of regional integration. As well as this regional focus, Richard's work focuses also on European Union-southern Africa relations, with a particular spotlight on the trade relations between these two regions. He has written extensively on SACU, SADC the TDCA and EPAs.

Richard has worked, and held visiting fellowships, at UCT and is on the editorial board of the South African Geographical Journal.

Critical Thinking Forum

SAIIA and the Mail and Guardian newspaper recently hosted a critical thinking forum on South African trade, industrial and exchange rate policies, where Treasury DG Lesetja Kganyago gave the keynote speech. They also launched an op-eds series on trade reform in the Mail and Guardian:
