SAIIA is an independent think tank that encourages a more informed awareness of the importance of international affairs. Based at Jan Smuts House on the Wits campus it is both a centre for research excellence and a home for stimulating public debate. It has been rated the top think tank in sub-Saharan Africa for the last three years by its peers globally.

The Institute offers Individual Membership for interested members of the public who wish to participate in its activities. The fee for 2012 is R370 plus VAT and members will receive invitations to high profile speakers’ meetings, a monthly newsletter, and access to the Jan Smuts House Library. Topics for forthcoming events include lessons from Libya (the duty to protect and sovereignty), the Eurozone situation, and the contest for economic and political leadership in Africa.
