Global and African Best Practice
The Global and African Best Practice project, funded by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, began in 2003 and has been completed. It identified and analysed global best practice in key areas necessary for the successful implementation of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
The project was divided into two stages: the first included the research and writing of a number of country-specific and cross-cutting research papers; the second focused on the applicability of these lessons and experiences across African states and their relevance to Nepad. Selected themes included the following: education and skills development; small and medium enterprises; external engagement and diplomacy; agriculture; high-tech industrialisation and corporate governance.

The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and Governance
SAIIA’s Nepad and Governance programme ran from September 2002 to September 2006, and was funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Pretoria. The programme was launched soon after the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) was developed, and sought to reflect on the key governance and development challenges facing the continent and innovative solutions to these challenges.
The project included research and training components.
Publications emanating from this project can be found here.
The programme was immediately followed by the Governance and APRM programme, which was also funded by the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Pretoria.
