Areas of Research Expertise:

  • Global economic governance, especially the World Trade Organization and the G20
  • Regional economic integration in Southern Africa
  • Trade and Investment policies and negotiations

Background:

Peter’s previous positions include: Head of Department of the Department of Economics and Economic History at the University of Durban-Westville; head of the Asia and Mercosur desks at the national Department of Trade and Industry; and Director of Economic Analysis and Research in the DTI’s International Trade and Economic Development Division.

His current domestic affiliations include: his appointment as Senior Research Fellow in the Economic Diplomacy programme at the South African Institute of International Affairs; Visiting Adjunct Professor of International Business at Wits Business School; and Research Associate of the Department of Political Science at the University of Pretoria.

His current international affiliations include: board member of the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis; non-resident senior fellow of the Brussels-based European Centre for International Political Economy; non-resident Fellow of the OECD’s Development Centre; member of the IMD-Lausanne’s Evian group; member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Trade; and member of the World Economic Survey Expert Group coordinated by the Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich.
