Background:
Ana C. Alves holds a PhD degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics, her dissertation topic was 'China's Oil Diplomacy in Africa and South America: Comparing Chinese economic statecraft in Angola and Brazil'. She holds a M.A. in International Relations (specialising in China studies) from Technical University of Lisbon (TUL). Ana Alves has a long record as a researcher having worked in several projects (1998-2001 – Macau in the Pearl River Delta, Instituto do Oriente, IO-UTL; 2001-2005 – The first five years of Macau's transition to Chinese sovereignity, IO-UTL; 2005-2009 – China in the African Portuguese speaking countries IO-UTL; 2007-2011 - China in Africa project, SAIIA). She is currently on leave from Technical University of Lisbon where she is Auxiliary Professor at the Institute of Social and Political Sciences and researcher at the Instituto do Oriente.
