Background:
Romy Chevallier holds a BA Honours in Political Science from the University of Stellenbosch and a Master's degree in International Relations (cum laude) from the University of Witwatersrand. Ms Chevallier joined SAIIA in 2004 as a research intern. She is currently working within the Emerging Powers, Global Challenges programme as a researcher on the EU-Africa cooperation and climate change. Ms Chevallier investigates the EU’s strategic engagement with Africa and South Africa on a broad range of issues and in a changing geo-political landscape.
Ms Chevallier completed a six month advanced training and dialogue programme called 'Managing Global Governance' in Germany in 2007 sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in cooperation with Capacity Building International, Germany (InWEnt) and the German Development Institute (DIE). During this internship she did research at the United National Framework Convention for Climate Change (UNFCCC) on integrating climate change and the development. Ms Chevallier continues to work on the politics of climate change, looking specifically at the negotiating positions of South Africa and the region. She also has done work on developing country alliances (such as IBSA) and cooperation on climate related issues.
