The focus of the discussions was the content of two SAIIA-GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) studies.
- The first, 'Drivers of Regional Integration: Value Chains, Investment and New Forms of Co-operation', is a combined initiative of the member think tanks of the EPF and SAIIA which explores the potential for private sector investment and cooperation in the SADC region.
- The second study (another joint SAIIA-GIZ initiative), 'Barriers Case Studies: Unlocking Economic Potential in Southern Africa' is a collection of case studies of the concrete constraints to doing business in the SADC region.
The discussions were of interest to a wide range of businesses, particularly those in the mining, pharmaceutical, alternative energy, transport & logistics, manufacturing, telecommunications, services & trading and agricultural sectors.
Speakers included Talitha Bertelsmann-Scott, Programme Head: Economic Diplomacy (SAIIA) and Christopher Wood, former SAIIA researcher and author of the publication. They gave short presentations followed by a roundtable discussion.
