Event Background

Dr Barend Leendert (Boy) Geldenhuys (D.Litt. et Phil: B.Th) studied at the universities of Stellenbosch and RAU in Theology and Philosophy. He was a Minister of the Dutch Reformed Church in Randpoort and a Member of Parliament for 25 years.  He was the chairman of Standing Committees on Defence and Foreign Affairs and Deputy Minister of Health, Education and Welfare. He was a Member of Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs for 10 years since 1994 as well as a Member of Fact-finding Committee to Israel and Palestine in 2001.  In 2004 he was a member of the Pan-African Parliament (2004). From 2004 - 2009 he served as Ambassador to Jordan (2004 - 2009).
