The South African Institute of International Affairs, Western Cape Branch, invites you to a public seminar on "Africa and the United Nations - Reform, Resistance and Responsibility" to be addressed by Ambassador Kaire Mbuende Former permanent representative of Namibia to the UN and SAIIA Distinguished Visiting Fellow at The Centre for the Book, 62 Queen Victoria Street, Gardens, Cape Town on Wednesday 23 February 2011 at 5:00 for 5:30 pm.

Dr. Kaire Mbuende was born on 28th November 1953 in Windhoek.

He has had distinguished careers in academia, politics and diplomacy, and business. From 2006 to 2010, he was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Namibia to the United Nations.  From 1994 to 1999 he served as Executive Secretary of SADC (Southern African Development Community). He is currently a Distinguished Fellow at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).  Dr. Kaire Mbuende´s highest academic qualification is a PhD in Economic Sociology, which he obtained from the University of Lund, Sweden in 1986.

He has written the following books:

Namibia the Broken Shield: Anatomy of Imperialism and Revolution, Liber, Stockholm 1986,

Church and Liberation in Namibia, Pluto Press, London 1989,

Social Movements and the Demise of Apartheid Colonialism in Namibia, CODESRIA, Dakar,

and Beyond the Rhetoric of Economic Partnership Agreements - Issues to be Addressed in ACP-EU Trade Negotiations with Dr. Rob Davies.
