Geoff Brundrit is Emeritus Professor of Physical Oceanography at the University of Cape Town, where he was Head of Department for over twenty five years. In this time he supervised forty two research students in their higher degrees, and published over sixty papers on various aspects of Oceanography in the international scientific literature. He was the Founding Chairman of the Global Ocean Observing System in Africa (GOOS-AFRICA) from 1998 until 2002, and has now been re-appointed from 2006. He has recently been consultant to the City of Cape Town and the Governments of Mozambique and Namibia on the impacts of sea level rise due to climate change. He has also advised the European Commission on the extension of their satellite observing system to serve the marine and coastal needs of Africa.
