Event description:

The Honourable Neo Moroka was elected Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi South and appointed Minister of Trade and Industry in 2004.  His ministry is responsible for economic growth and diversification through the attraction of foreign direct investment, international trade and relations as well as entrepreneurship development.  He is also a former President of the Botswana Confederation of Commerce, Industry and Manpower.

Before joining the government in November 2004, Mr Moroka worked for BP Botswana, a subsidiary of British Petroleum where he served as General Manager, Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors for seven years after which he went to Zambia to become the Managing Director of BP Zambia. In 2001 he was transferred on promotion to BP Southern Africa to hold the portfolio of Commercial Director, responsible for BP's commercial operations in SADC and Kenya.

Mr Moroka is a biologist by profession and has vast experience in wildlife biology.  He is also a qualified banker with extensive experience in the banking industry, where he served as Agricultural Adviser to Barclays Bank of Botswana before transferring to retail and corporate banking.  He is winner of the inaugural Bank of Botswana Banker of the Year Award. His past Board directorships include, among others, National Development Bank, Bank of Botswana, BP Mozambique, BP Zambia, BP Southern Africa, Botswana Meat Commission (UK) Holdings London and Botswana as well as the Debswana Diamond Mining Company.
