How to join the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA)
The South African Institute of International Affairs is a membership organisation which provides a range of services to its paid-up members.The services are tailored to the needs of our various categories of members and are provided free of charge in proportion to the membership fee paid.
An indication of the services available to each member category is provided below and the application forms should be faxed to +27 11 339-2021:
Corporate Membership
Corporate members are entitled to a full range of the services provided by SAIIA, related to the scale of contribution:
- Briefings, preparation of reports and speech-writing by SAIIA’s qualified specialist researchers, to meet the specific needs of the corporate member.
- Networking opportunities at focus groups, workshops, seminars, conferences and speakers’ meetings hosted by the Institute. Participants include corporate executives, diplomats, government officials, members of the media, and academics.
- Invitations to small off-the-record briefings and lunches.
- Use of the Institute’s library and press clipping service.
- Copies of SAIIA publications as they appear. These include:
o The SA Yearbook of International Affairs
o SA Journal of International Affairs
o SAIIA books and country reports
o Electronic publications
o Newspaper articles by SAIIA staff on current issues in their areas of specialisation.
Each corporate member is entitled to nominate a VIP contact and, depending on the scale of the company’s contribution, up to three further contacts.
Diplomatic membership
Foreign diplomatic missions in South Africa can acquire membership in accordance with the size of their transferred staff complement.
Privileges of membership are similar to those of corporate membership.
Jan Smuts House Institutional Membership
Organisations with a national role for which corporate or diplomatic membership is not appropriate, may acquire Jan Smuts House Institutional Membership.
Overseas Diplomatic Membership
Diplomatic and consular missions outside South Africa may become members of SAIIA and receive the Institute’s publications electronically.
Overseas Institutional Membership
Academic and other institutions outside South Africa may become Overseas Institutional Members and receive all SAIIA publications.
Branch membership
SAIIA has branches in Johannesburg (Witwatersrand), Pretoria, Cape Town (Western Cape), East London, Durban and Pietermaritzburg. Branch membership caters for individual donors, individuals and students, who receive invitations to speakers’ meetings and conferences convened locally, as well as information on SAIIA activities.
Branch institutional membership provides for tertiary institutions, schools and local organisations.
